It sounds like a great program! I am a junior leader for a group of 10-14 year olds, and I would really like to get them involved as well, if that's okay? I can get them to write some Christmas messages as well, and I can translate them to Japanese if that is easier. I think it would be a really good opportunity for them too!

My name is David Gray. I am an Adult Support Member with Highfields Cub Scouts in Australia. Our Cub Scouts would like to establish a pen pal program with an overseas pack. We would be interested in sending and receiving Christmas messages. Our cubs will we on holiday through December and January, so we need to act in the next few weeks.
I look forward to your reply.

It is always a pleasure to make new friends in Scouting. Mtarfa Scout Group is a relatively new scout group formed at the beginning of July of this year. However we are very active, and we are finding a lot of cooperation at the locality. You may like to visit our website, which I am sure you will find interesting, and there you may find also a lot of photos showing the activities held so far, including the Joti participation for the first time.
I invite you also to visit our guest book.
I believe that our scouts would like to receive this Christmas Messages from Japan and are interested with your program. I look forward to your further details on the project.
Greetings of friendship and good health,
Yours in Scouting,

We are excited to participate in your proposed program. We have repeatedly discussed establishing a “pen pal” program for our group, but have not worked out the details internally yet.
As you may notice, I have switched to my personal email account as it is easier for me to access at this time. The email address that is listed on the JOTI site is not yet production ready although I am able to receive messages there. If you would like to use email as the initial contact method for the Scouts I can work on making a standard email address initially available and then we can collectively decide how the youths can establish individual contact later. If you think postal mail is preferred we can certainly work that out as well.
We appreciate your willingness to translate to English for us and we, in turn, have begun searching for resources to assist in the translation to Japanese for at least a portion of our messages in the spirit of cultural learning and exchange. We think our Scouts will learn a great deal by being exposed to another language and culture and look forward to the questions generated by this exchange.
We are working on our web site, but do not have anything ready to share with the world yet. We are planning a Pack meeting next week and will have all of our Scouts in one room and will arrange some photos that we can share. I will send them as soon as they are available.
Our Pack is made up of Cub Scouts ranging in ages from 7-11, we have a relationship with a Boy Scout Troop of older Scouts that we can contact if you would like to expand your contacts to a group of older Scouts. While we cannot guarantee their participation we would be happy to pass on your information to allow them to make direct contact with you to discuss the program. Please let me know if you would like me to provide your email address and contact information to this older Scout group.
